I think iCal, I think iCal…

This one is for all of you cross-over tech/sports geeks --- team schedules available in iCal format! We've had this feature on the Yahoo! Sports site for ages, but just never got around to deciding where to link it in. Actually, I still haven't linked it in anywhere, but you can navigate around through the teams using the dropdown menu (or by appending "/ical" to the team schedule URL). Schedules are also available for MLB, NHL, and NBA.

Handy advice: you'll probably want to import the schedule into a new calendar, saving you the trouble of needing to manually delete each entry after your team's fortunes start heading south (which you can conveniently keep track of, as the scores of completed games are sent along with the calendar).

Are there any plans to add this to yahoo groups? Or is it already there and I don’t know it?

As such, not that I’m aware of, Barron. That’s a really good idea, though, as I’d bet there are a few groups out there geared towards following certain teams. Hopefully we’ll fix up our Calendar product pretty soon to understand iCal, which would probably solve the problem (since Groups uses Calendar)!

Yeah, even beyond following teams, though. I’ve got a site for each half of my family, and also sites where events happen on a 3-4 times a year basis. It’s just infrequent enough to make it hard to remember when things happen. iCal functionality would make it easy to get birthdays/anniversaries/etc and events (with reminders?) into my phone or PDA.

Oh, I get it. You were asking about whether Groups would be able to *export* iCal more than whether it could import iCal. Same answer (”I don’t know!”), but we definitely have a lot of engineers pushing for more pervasive iCal integration, so I’m sure someone is trying to get that in there as new versions roll out.
