Happy news year!

Welcome to 2007! For those of you who happened to have made a resolution vowing to consume news in an efficient manner from multiple data sources, this concept piece from the Yahoo! Research Labs' shows some cool potential. The Topic Clustered RSS Reader is a widget designed to demonstrate the applications of clustering technology by aggregating news from a variety of providers (AP, Reuters, CNN, etc) and bunching up all of the articles that are covering the same topic. This lets you absorb a wide range of news sources without needing to sort through a bunch of redundant articles, and also points out the biggest stories of the day by allowing you to see which topic clusters garner the most articles.
Of course, I have no idea where this widget is pulling its data from, because it seems several months out of date. Still, I like the idea and hopefully I can poke through the code and make it actually useful for this upcoming news year.
