How can ‘My Yahoo!’ be a Cool Thing of the Day???

Yeah, I know! It's like one of the oldest things on the Yahoo! network - but it's still cool; because it keeps evolving. For me, the biggest evolution for 'My' has been the transparent incorporation of the whole 'RSS' thing. Any public RSS feed can now be added to My Yahoo! - in fact, if anyone has ever added it to their own page, you can just search for it (by title), or add the feed directly.

You must've seen the ubiquitous '+ My Yahoo! buttons. These make RSS accessible to the common user - it's much easier to explain what "Add to My Yahoo" means, then it is to explain what to do with that orange RSS button means. It's this Yahoo "bring it to the masses" attitude that has made "My Yahoo!" one of the largest RSS aggregator on the web!

One more cool thing - did you know you can just drag-n-drop the modules nowadays to reorder them on the page? Yep, click the title of any of the modules, and move them to the new position. It's that easy!

Finally, as you'd expect, once you add an RSS feed to My Yahoo!, it also appears in your Mail feeds list. Yes, I mean the Mail Beta, and yes, I know you're eagerly waiting!! It'll be worth the wait - we promise!

The RSS incorporation is what I love about Yahoo! I’ve been an evangelist for Yahoo’s wide array (though strangely disconnected) of tools for a while now. The only thing I wish is that I didn’t have to have my RSS feeds in the large column.I’d much prefer to use shorter columns– it’s easier to pack more information onto a page that way. In fact, I dusted off my Passport ID and started a myMSN page for a while because of their lovely small-column format. Unfortunately, I soon learned that MSN just doesn’t handle RSS as well as Yahoo.

I can’t say much about future plans, but I can say you raise a very valid point that is being addressed (along with a number of others). Hopefully someone from that team will follow up about it.

Hey Earnest Pettie, try editing any rss feed on my yahoo, and select the “media” template. Your module will move to the narrow column even if it doesn’t have any media. Not quite dnd, but almost there… ;-)
