On the Subject of Gallery Stuff…

Is it wrong to make today's post a blatant rebroadcast of the cool thing from another Yahoo! blog that was posted about just this morning? If it is, I don't want to be right. Because then I'll have to come up with something else to write about. Thanks, Sarah!

So, read over that link up there. :) The subject is Flickengr, a Yahoo! Messenger plugin that brings your friends' Flickr photos right to your desktop. And it does it really well. When you install the plugin, it guesses at your Flickr account based on your Yahoo! ID and does the same for all of your friends, importing their most recent photos into a slick little slideshow that displays in your Messenger contact window. You can manually assign Flickr IDs to each of your friends as well, if you're not satisfied with the automatic results. Once everyone is loaded up, you can just let the photos scroll by, or jump directly to a particular contact, or pop the slideshow into a larger window. You even have one-click access to pinging a photo owner, commenting on their photo, or hiding a photo that you don't like (though I'm not exactly sure how you bring it back. Maybe you have to reload the plugin). In general, it's a nice, convenient way to see what your friends have been up to, without that tedious step of actually talking to them.
