Piping the Earth

Well, now this is cool...

So the fine folks at Y!Pipes have introduced a clever hack that accepts Google Earth KML definition files and overlays them on the Javascript Y!Maps. Why would you want to do that? Well, for one it's never good to have only one platform, for another, it means that it's pretty darn trivial to integrate nifty KML data onto any existing map mashup you might have around. The Pipes folks have a few examples.

A few notes about the KML support. Unfortunately, it looks like they've not built in a compression handler, and there are limits to the amount of data that the file can have, but to be honest, what's cool is the fact that there's a filter that parses through the feeds looking for address components and geocodes the data.
