On the Levels

Over this past weekend, a friend of mine told me "You know what I miss having with the new maps beta? I miss having the tags that told me what level of zoom I was at." They were great for him because they gave a better sense of what level he was looking at.
Turns out those tabs aren't quite missing, they're just hidden.

If you bring up the Maps Beta, and click on the little white triangle to collapse the quick view map to just the zoom slider, when you drag the scale slider up and down, you'll see those tags.
Personally, I kinda like them too. Yeah, they're not perfectly accurate (I'm fairly certain that the state zoom for Rhode Island vs. Texas would be a hair different), but i think they convey more meaning than just "3" or "7". Hopefully the tags will return to the other interface as well.
See? We do listen. And if you've got an idea, comment or complaint PLEASE Let the maps folks know!
Huh. The Help link is broken. Gotta go file a bug about that.

[...] What really surprised me, though, was the preponderence of people who seemed to have no idea that we’ve been implementing at least some version of this concept for a good year or so. So, time for another post about Yahoo! Maps! Interesting features in bold so you don’t miss ‘em, and of course, here’s the Yahoo! Maps Beta link so you can follow along at home. [...]
