One of the nice things about having this blog is that we get to find out cool stuff we had no idea about either.
Just this morning, Carlo (He of the Planet Yahoo! mega feed), sent me the following note:
I noticed an awful lot of people aren't aware of Y! Avatars yet, especially the fact that we allow hotlinking. I mean, Avatars alone is certainly a nice toy, but the whole exporting (i.e. HTML snippet/URL thing) is just awsome. And hey, it even has memorable URLs which should actually make it a good candidate for message board plugins etc. ("Enter your Y!ID and we'll automatically grab your avatar for you").
Cool! (Ought to figure out how to work that into the site...) Thanks Carlo!

If only the dynamic (reflects changes you make to it) Y! avatar could be used as a bulletin board avatar or in the signature block. Most, if not all, bulletin board systems are not allowing for dynamic links for avatars or within signature blocks. Rats.
I can see the board developers point. Moderators don’t want to approve something only to have it change without their knowledge - e.g. cute kitten avatar suddenly becomes some offensive baby killing relgious icon.
But it would be kewl if developers made an allowance (i.e. the plugin mentioned by Carlo) for Y! Avatars since, after all, they aren’t going to turn into offensive baby killing religious icons now, are they?

Hey, as a member of a group of devout baby killers… What’s that Father?… sorry, my mistake. Here’s your baby back ma’am.
Yeah, I agree about the mood avatars. Although, I’ve got an image randomizer I use for a number of boards, but it’d be nice to be able to pick your mood. Huh, I’ll have to send in a suggestion…
