You asked for it, we give it

A friend asked if there's an easy way to add selected FIFA World Cup matches to one's Yahoo! Calendar. I asked around in my office and Sumeet (who felt he'd rather hack something bloggable rather than post here) wrote a quick bookmarklet to do that. Here's how you'd use it. Open this page (see update below) in a new tab/window. Drag the links titled "WC 2006 S[1/2] ([your timezone])" from the page to your bookmarks folder. Then go to Stage 1 schedule and when you're there, click on the bookmarklet 1. Voila! You'll see images of "bells" () next to the timings in each match. Click on those that you want to watch; they'll be added to your Yahoo! Calendar. Repeat the same for Stage 2. Well, this isn't an official product feature. Nevertheless.

Update: FIFA has since changed the html of the page after Sumeet wrote the hack. One could use Gopal's bookmarklet that's been written for the new html.

Update 2: Turns that Sumeet's code doesn't give a damn about the change in html and still works. The messing part was done by some spurious newlines introduced by my edit. You can use the boomarklet now available for Eastern Time too from here. Thanks Sumeet and Gopal.

Thanks. On Firefox, the ‘bell’ image doesnt come. it just shows the placeholder. And clicking on it also doesnt seem to do anything :-(.
On IE, the bookmarklet didnt execute at all.

Btw… could the problem I saw be something to do with any browser setting… Anything I need to explicitly enable on firefox.

How about a US Eastern version (or do I need to just adjust the PST ones?)

The link and images are screwed up, please replace the one you have with – fixed xsrc.

If anything was messed up, its probably when I edited the original html page from the author before uploaded. Because, it worked fine before I made the edit. In any case, t3rmin4t0r has fixed it. Once Sumeet comes, I’ll upload the correct version.

Ah. I got the problem now. FIFA has changed the html in the schedule page. They’ve added the tornament tree recently. Glad that t3rmin4t0r uploaded the fixed code here.

Strange. The bookmarklets seem to work fine here. Tested on FF 1.5 and 1.0.7. The changed HTML at FIFA’s doesn’t matter, as the bookmarklet still targets specific cells in the table. :)
