New Groups

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

Oh Groups, how you've longed for love...

Well, turns out you're finally getting some. (wait, no, that sounds wrong.)

Groups is in the midst of a huge redo. A lot of it you won't see, but they're moving from a very old and VERY crufty platform to a much lighter, more modern system. Enough that it's going to free up quite a bit of CPU and memory on the servers. So instead of keeping those machines from whiling the days paying global thermonuclear war tic-tac-toe against each other, they've added a slew of new features that you will see. Things like customizable pages, better photo integration, a better layout, conversations and other things to make groups a bit easier to deal with. It's still very much in beta, and there are some things they're still rolling out (calendar, polls, database, & scheduled messages) so if your group absolutely can't exist without those, hold off on hunting down an invite.

Still, nice to see the dust get blown off a powerhouse and something a bit more than just a fresh coat of paint.

In Good Company Store

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

Sorry about not getting this out earlier! I couldn't access ycoolthing.com on Friday. I had also had a longer, funnier post written up, but the draft didn't save. Actually, I should use that excuse every time that I write a short, boring post.

There's really nothing that makes my day like being decked out from head to toe in Yahoo! gear. From my official Yahoo! visor to my official Yahoo! socks, I can proclaim to the world that I work at a company that's not just a company -- it's also an interjection (and a punctuated one at that). Now you can also get that feeling (of proclaiming, not of working here, unless you have a resume handy that you'd like to send over) by visiting the recently launched Yahoo! Company Store. Sure, people might have suspected that you were a "crude or brutish person" already, but you might as well get a chino twill hat to remove all doubt.
