Waste time with online video even faster!

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

There are actually too many cool things that just got rolled out with Yahoo! Search, such that I don't even feel like trying to cover them all right now (this is still vacation time for me *grin*). But I should at least start scratching the surface, and it's seems like as good a place to start as any with the new integration of video players directly into the search results pages. If you're hunting around for, say, a "kiwi animation", the YouTube, Metacafe, and Yahoo! Video results are specifically called out with a video thumbnail, and clicking on the Play Video link will pop the video right there into the page. If multiple video results come back, go ahead and start 'em all! We don't mind (as long as your computer can handle it). And liberal use of the "site:" keyword is encouraged.

If you've been to a store, or watching TV, you've noticed that there's a lot of pink going around. Not being ones to pass up a really good cause, the fine Flickr folks are kicking in their efforts. To sweeten the pot, Yahoo! will post $1 for every pink picture posted to the PassionatelyPinkForTheCure group, up to $50,000.

Helping to cure breast cancer? Yeah, that's pretty cool.

Won’t somebody think of the children?

DonorsChoose is a pretty sweet organization that makes it easy for people to chip in to purchase much-needed supplies for teachers around the country. Some of our awesome engineers donated their time and coding prowess as part of the Yahoo! for Good group to help rebuild the DonorsChoose site a while ago, and in response to their Blogger Challenge, we're stepping up to the plate again (along with Google, SixApart, and Federated Media; kudos to all of them!). The blogger that prompts the most readers to participate in the challenge will win a lunch with Jerry Yang and a year's supply of joy and gratitude from all of the children whose educational opportunities they'll be enriching. We actually might not be guaranteeing that last part, but you'll need to read the Yodel post to make sure.
