New albums, by “Grease” and The Monkees…

Welcome to the New Year, folks! I think that one of my resolutions had been to keep the Yahoo! Cool Thing of the Day blog updated more regularly. Consistently not updating still counts as regular, right? We'll see if work settles down enough that I can really get a good rhythm going.

On the subject of rhythm, we...oh, wait, that segue doesn't work at all, unless anyone has a cool thing from Yahoo! Music on hand. Music... CDs... albums...

Ah, perfect! Sorting through photo albums on Flickr has never been music to my ears -- I love a lot about the simplicity of the design, but I always feel disconnected from the photo set as a whole when I have to click down to view the photos themselves. Random internet user Robert Nyman felt the same way, and was enterprising enough to actually put together a Greasemonkey script (as well as a full-fledged Firefox extension) to address the issue. Once you're running the script, your Flickr set pages turn into nice-and-simple photo preview pages, where you can just click on a persistent collection of thumbnails and view the enlarged photos without losing your context. It may not be the ideal interface for everyone, but I definitely like the sound...er, sight of it.

Suggestion: add "http://www.flickr.com/photos/*/sets/*/?page=*" and "http://flickr.com/photos/*/sets/*/?page=*" to the Included Pages to catch sets with multiple pages.
